There isn't much storage space here; not for a mansion of this size. Most of the family's knick-knacks and gew-gaws are kept in the cellar. Really, the most interesting thing about the attic is the view from the window--providing you are able to climb over all the clutter. Still, it was a fun place to hide out in when I was younger (and much smaller). There was a rumour I heard years ago about a "monster" whose face you could see from the garden if you looked up at the attic window long enough, or from a certain angle. But by the time you climbed all those stairs to catch a glimpse of the beast, the room was always empty. Frankly, I suspect the Carters started that rumour themselves just to keep neighborhood kids like me from mucking about near the house ! If that was the case, it definitely backfired. |
