The east wing of the mansion is almost entirely
flanked by the formal gallery that you see here.
The earlier generations of Carters had a great
appreciation for painting and when circumstances
allowed, collected extensively.
Most of the works shown here were sold at auction
in 1935, but certainly some of the works that were of
personal value to the Depression-era Carters were
squirreled away to private homes of friends throughout
New England.
The east side of the building features the long porch and
gardens beyond. North takes you to the Sunroom.
